Social Work

Social Work is a profession that attends to the social needs of the population in vulnerable situations. The social work profession promotes social change, the resolution of problems in human relationships, and the empowerment and liberation of people to increase their well-being. Using theories of human behavior and social systems, social work intervenes at the points where people interact with their environment. The principles of human rights and social justice are fundamental to social work.
The professional field of social work often faces the challenge of developing and using different theoretical and methodological resources to face different types of situations, usually related to social exclusion. In this field, the theoretical-methodological dimension is crucial, since it refers to the knowledge of reality and the way of knowing and interpreting it (what is the social worker's worldview). This has to do with what is his or her positioning, what is the professional's basis for knowing man, society, etc., approaching a social problem and acting accordingly.
